FLASH FROM THE PAST -- WOOLWOWRTH’S LUNCHEONETTE REOPENS IN DOWNTOWN BAKERSFIELD By Bonnie Carroll .jpg)
Luncheonette Entrance - Woolworth's Renowned Counter The country’s last remaining Woolworth’s Luncheonette reopened in downtown Bakersfield after a nearly four-year closure. Located inside the Woolworth’s Building the diner continued operating for decades inside Woolworth’s department store, which shut down in 1994.
Famous Woolworth Burger & Rootbeer Float You will find the nostalgic double cheeseburgers, chili cheese fries, and hand-blended milkshakes as well as pastrami Ruben, green goddess Cob salad and lemon icebox cheesecake. Banana splits, sodas, and sundaes can be viewed from the classic counter, and all are made to order.
The Menu The Bakersfield Woolworth’s was designed in the late 1930s featuring a sleek and curvy architecture style but was not constructed until after WWII. Great effort was made to preserve the original features including the counter, chrome-back stools, cooking equipment, terrazzo floors, and wood paneling. What a trip down memory lane this will be for any WWII babies still out there who are welcoming a flash from the past childhood experience. Woolworth Building, 1400 19th Bakersfield, California
